Company Profile
Samsung Group is
a South Korean multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Samsung
Town, Seoul. It comprises numerous subsidiaries and affiliated business, most
of them united under the Samsung brand, and is the largest
South Korean Chaebol (business conglomerate).
Samsung
was founded by Lee Byung-Chull in 1983 as a trading company. Samsung started
out as a small trading company with around forty employees. As a company,
Samsung sells a variety of electronics and services similar to Apple and the
other electronic companies. Over the next three decades the group diversified
into areas including food processing, textiles, insurance, securities and
retail. Samsung entered the electonics industry in the late 1960s and the
contuctions and shipbuilding industries in the mid 1970s, these areas would
drive its subsequents growth. After the death of Byung-Chull in 1987, Samsung
Corporation divided into four group business groups:

1950s-1980s

1953 : Lee
Byung-Chull float Samsung trading company in Daegu.

1953 : Samsung
started sugar production, which has since been spun off into the CJ Corporation

1958 : Samsung
started offering insurance.

1963 : A
Sinsegye department store opened in Kwanjou.

1965 : Samsung
started the Joong-Ang Ilbo daily newspaper. Today this newspaper has no
affiliation with the company.

Petrochemical and Heavy Industried was founded.

have become its most important source of income.
In
2013, Samsung began contruction on building the world’s largest mobile phone
factory in the Thai Nguyen province of Vietnam.

has a powerful influence on South Korea’s economic development, politics, media
and culture, and has been a major driving force behind the “Miracle on the Han
River”. Its affiliate companies produce around a fifth of South Korea’s total
exports. Samsung’s revenue was equal to 17% of South Korea’s $1,082 billion GDP.
